Auto Industry Springs With Mike Eaton

posted by David Wolf on Jan 26, 2009 | Comments (5) | Permalink | Trackback URL

I spoke with Mike Eaton from the heart of America’s auto industry, Detroit, MI..Here are some of the questions we covered during the segment:

1. Take us back to Detroit: It’s 1937 and a new company called Eaton Springs was founded by the Eaton Family—-was it your grandfather?
2. The auto industry is facing a whole new and somewhat disturbing set of challenges. Do you know any stories about the business challenges that Eaton Springs business faced in through the 1940’s 50’s 60’s 70’s and onward?
3. When did you take over the wheel at Eaton Springs and how did you get involved or interested in joining the family business?
4. You’ve mentioned that the company was in a real crisis when you took over. What was the crisis, and how did you manage the company through it?
5. How has the aftermarket business evolved or changed since you’ve been involved?
6. Let’s talk about your products. What makes Eaton Springs better than the competition?
7. Who are your customers today?
8. What’s your view on the big 3 auto manufactures—-how did they get into so much trouble?
9. Is there a way to save the auto industry in America?

  1. The “Big 3” got into trouble because they didn’t look to the future and innovate new, more fuel efficient cars and trucks while the foreign automakers did. Instead of building cool cars, they should have been making fuel efficient cars.

  3. I agree with the “cool car”. now, it’s time for automakers, not just look at the market who want a taste of cool cars, but also energy efficient, to support the blue sky program.

  4. That’s a great question. I guess we have to make a green car, a car with efficient energy and save for earth
